Natural Scenery | Why We Love Tahoe

Natural Scenery for Days

When most people think of the top places in the United States for natural scenery, Tahoe is typically on the list. What makes this natural wonderland so amazing? We are so glad you asked...

The (Very) Blue Water

Why is Lake Tahoe's water so blue? Lake Tahoe's water is so clear, and the air so unpolluted, that the water absorbs red light, which means it reflects more blue light. Also, at 1645 feet max depth, Lake Tahoe is the second deepest lake in the United States after Crater Lake. For more fun facts about Lake Tahoe, visit Keep Tahoe Blue. The crystal clear water of Lake Tahoe is only one reason for the area's beautiful natural scenery. There is so much more!

The Tahoe Rim Trail

The Rim Trail features 165 miles of single-track trail and is some of the best hiking anywhere in the country. Looping all the way around Lake Tahoe, there is hardly a section without stunning views of the lake, creeks, meadows or vistas. Elevations along the Tahoe Rim Trail range anywhere from 6,300 feet to 10,338 feet atop Relay Peak. If you'd like to know our favorite hikes, we've put together a list of our Top 5!

Emerald Bay

Located on the Western shore of Lake Tahoe, Emerald Bay State Park is a lovely sight to behold. The water in the bay is shallower than the rest of Tahoe, giving it an unmistakable blue-green hue. Hillsides of granite and a neat islet help complete this gorgeous sight. In the summer months there are a lot of boaters having a blast, but in the winter it's gorgeous to see as it can become frozen over at times. Pictured below: Emerald Bay, CA.

Views For Days

The Sierra Nevada mountain range is truly a thing to behold. Snow-capped or not, you would be hard-pressed to find natural scenery as pretty as the Sierra Nevadas. Try snow-shoeing to get a great workout and reach some of these stunning views during the winter months. Pictured below: Donner Peak near Truckee, CA.
